I’ve worked in Training, Learning and Development for more than 24 years. Following redundancy in 1999, I was inspired to become an assessor for electrical engineering students in Neath Port Talbot College. This led to further opportunities in workplace learning, covering NVQ’s, Apprenticeships and Training. I have experience in running apprenticeships on both the English and Welsh frameworks, as well as successfully securing Welsh Assembly Government funding.
I set up Covec Construction Skill Centre a year ago in London. The Centre recently celebrated its first anniversary, in just over a year we have trained several thousand people. I manage the quality of the centre, a LENLY and COVEC funded project.
Construction is my passion and on many of the projects I have worked on, it’s been really fulfilling to see that passion developing in my trainees, many of whom had not previously considered a career in the sector, especially on a pre-employability program. However, I have a wide variety of training experience, including National Training Competency Manager for Carillion and Head of Delivery for EdExcel. My training delivery experience covers a diverse range of subjects, including business and management skills, ILM, health and social skills, security and rail, as well as in construction.
I also work with other training centres, businesses and borough councils across the UK, helping them secure funding, gain accreditation and improve the quality of their training delivery via mentoring. I’ve also helped with interim management, improving centre accreditation during the interim period.
Some clients only want advice and mentoring and I’m happy to do that. Others will want consultancy and assistance to gain funding, whereas other organisations need me to set up and deliver multiple courses across multiple awarding bodies. My approach to all clients is flexible, I will work with what a client needs, large or small and respond according to project need, which often grows substantially beyond the initial enquiry.
I am currently engaged on existing training projects, but I am available for mentoring, funding assistance and advice.
